Setting A Good Example
Answers. These are rather easy, so an intermediate student should have got them all correct or, at most, one or two mistakes.
Mr Raymond Pennington is the headmaster of a small residential school for boys on the south coast of England. Last year, he sent out/off to parents a brochure which described the sort of education that was given at his school. It seemed that life at the school was hard, not only for the children but also for the teachers. Mr Pennington wrote:
"My teachers work hard. Even if they are ill, they are fined £15 a day for all the time they are off work. I believe that hard work, good manners and sticking to your job are far more important than book-learning and travel abroad."
Parents tried to get in touch with Mr Pennington at the school. Some succeeded, others failed. The ones who couldn't speak to the headmaster were told by his secretary:
"Mr Pennington is in St Moritz. He goes to Switzerland every weekend, usually on Friday morning but he will be back by Monday afternoon."
