Assessment
There are three main types of mistakes as a result of poor hearing:
- omission, the most common mistake, so that the fifth question becomes, "Serve breakfast coffee shop?" The final "s" is often missed. Most frequently, with poor listening, all articles and propositions and auxiliary verbs are omitted: "Bus airport take taxi?"
- translation, when the question is translated into the hearer's first language and then back again, so that "take a taxi" becomes "take a train", and "in the coffee shop" becomes "in the restaurant." These mistakes may also result from getting the general idea of the question but not its detail.
- misunderstanding, resulting in change of meaning, as when question seven becomes, "Where's the bus to the airport..."

| If you got all the questions correct, or just one or two mistakes, you should be having no difficulties dealing with spoken English.
If you had to listen several times before you got the question right, or if you made a number of mistakes, especially if you left out articles and prepositions, you would benefit from doing regular drills and listening exercises.
